Mayara echolocated, hoping some fish would be nearby. There was, but so were boats. That meant man kind. Mayara isnt too fond of man, because they forced her sister, Maliki to leave her pod, and to capture half of the pod. Mayara surfaced quickly, getting closer to the large boat, as well as the large, knotted up ropes, holding thousands of fish. She swam to the bottom section of the nets, and grabbed a few hopeless fish, and let them free of the nets, away from death. A few more fish were grabbed, but this time, Mayara ate them. She smilled, and blew bubbles. The bubbles quickly rushed to the surface, and left a white foamy mark on the surface. Mayara quickly looked up, hoping the humans wouldnt see. She grabbed a few more fish, and swallowed them heartlessly. I cant be caught. she thought to herself, madly dashing off, unknowingly, getting closer to the harbor, where more humans, and boats were. Mayara conitnued clicking, in hope of finding her sister, or even another orca, who could possibly help her find Maliki.

The water surrounding the harbor, darkened by oil and other human pollution, rippled with the movements of the many boats tethered there. And among the ripples, one could hardly notice a flash of sleek, dark, gray-brown fur that was nearly the same color as the water. But then there was another flash, and another. A young man with unusually sharp eyes, a worker on one of the many fishing boats, caught this. He stopped and knelt over, nearly until he fell into the water, watching for it again.
And there it went again! But this time, it was not just a flash. A cheerful-looking otter emerged, and almost seemed to smile at him. A moment later, it disappeared, leaving him with nothing but a memory.
Huh! Cheerful... how can an otter be cheerful? he told himself sternly, and promptly walked off, although with a smile on his face. He had to admit to himself that the otter had been rather... cute.
Trobee chuckled to herself as she swam off, studying the water for anything other than boats and ropes and other strange human contraptions. Funny how they need all this to simply catch some fish! The very thought of it. How silly these creatures are. However, although she wouldn't readily admit it, being around so much human activity made her feel slightly unnerved. After a bit of exploring, she promised to herself, I'll head out for open sea. But, as she explored a bit, she felt more and more nervous after a few encounters with some dangerous-looking hooks, so she headed out, although it wasn't what she would normally call an "adequate" exploration.

Mayara continued to swim forward, not turning, just going straight. She swam to the surface to get a breath of air. Before diving, she noticed the sky, it was nearly the same color as the surface of the water. Clouds were brushed in some parts of the sky, but not that many. She dived down to the bottom of the ocean, it was probably only about fifty feet from where she was. Thats odd, she though wondering why the water was so shallow.
For about ten minutes more, Mayara continued to swim in the same boring direction, straight. The water was getting more shallow, and more boats seemed to appear. Mayara glided slowly to the surface to spy hop, seeing where she was. It seemed there was a large harbor. People were walking on the tall wooden docks, some where getting into boats, some where getting out, a few children carelessly threw small rocks into the water. Mayara rolled her eyes, and continued to swim, she just had to see who these people are, what they do, but mainly if Maliki is there, or if anybody else besides the fish she eats to talk to.
The water here was more clear, but some areas were dark as the darkest nights. Oil clouded some old boats.
She surfaced once more, and noticed some water stir ahead of her. She was curious, she couldnt see what it was, for there was a cloud of oil a few feet in front of her. She dived down away from the oil, barely making it under it.
There she saw a small animal, she raised one eye, never seeing an animal like this or has she? "Hello." she said quietly, not wanting to scare it away.

The cute-faced ottermaid heard a small hello, and warped her graceful, sleek body so that she could see who had called to her, if they had been calling to her at all. After all, she was sure that there were more curious creatures like she, investigating this fascinating place, teeming with such strange creatures as humans were.
She squinted through the water, murky with human pollution as it was, and saw a simply enormous creature... was that a whale? They hardly ever came so close to land... this must've been the second or maybe even the first time that had Trobee had even seen one, as she tended to stay close to shore where she could run into other otters that might help her out in a tough spot.
"Hello!" Trobee called back cheerfully, darting through the thick water towards the enormous figure, which was actually surprisingly close to her. It was clearly a whale, now that she looked... a strange type of whale she had never seen before, white and black.
"What are you doing so close to shore?" the friendly ottermaid asked. "Surely whales like yourself don't usually come this close to where the humans are?"

Mayara looked at the small creature closley. She has heard of them, they were really energetic and curious through stories she had heard.
"I didn't think I would be taken here." Mayara replied. "I was hoping to get out to deeper water to find my sister, but apparently it became more shallow. I needed a break though. I've been swimming endlessly for a long time for the past months." Mayara continued, catching her breath. "Normally we dont, humans and us just dont seem to go well with eachother." she sighed and floated to the surface. A few people walked by not noticing her short dorsal fin. She was glad though, she didnt want to get attention from them.
"Who are you?" she asked, not catching the small mammals name.

Trobee tilted her head curiously to one side, studying the enormous whale creature. A million question whirred through her mind, and she didn't hesitate to put every one to the whale.
"Why are you looking for your sister? Why have you been swimming for days? Bit of rest always does you some good, that's what my ole mum always said!" the ottermaid chattered cheerfully. "Oh, I say, I don't think your sister would have swum this close to the humans! I do agree about how whales and humans don't mix, rather like oil and water, eh! But there's oil in the water here! What a funny little irony that is! There are lots of ironies about humans, now aren't there?" However, the otter promptly checked herself before the whale became lost in her barrage of words.
What did Mum always tell you, eh, you could use that mouth 'o yours like a weapon what with how fast it goes! She could imagine her mother's very face, and her very voice, saying those words.

Mayara floated at the surface and listened to the small otter talk. She never knew a small animal like Trobee could talk so much at once. She smilled warmly, then somewhat thought of herself. When she was a calf, she would never stop talking, and asking questions.
"I've been swimming for about two months now. My sister left the pod because we were being captured in this small cove. She managed to get away before any other pod members did. I managed to escape a day after her leaving. I have no idea if any other pod members are out looking for us." Mayara said calmly. She chuckled a little at what Trobee was saying about humans and orcas not mixing like oil and water not as well. "You sure got that right!" she replied. "Theres a little bit too many humans out there. I really think so." Mayara continued some more.
She took a breat and went back under water. Some more people where gathering on the dock. She did not want to be noticed by them.

The sea otter was bursting with questions almost before the odd black-and-white whale had finished talking.
"Really now? Who were you captured by? Did everyone escape? Blinkin' lot 'o bounders, they must've been!" She fell intensely silent as she waited for an answer, for she had just remembered another one of her mother's lessons that had been taught to her before she'd left the holt... to always wait for a creature's answer before barging on with more question. Her head tilted slightly to the side, she studied the whale before her. Enormous creatures, they were, indeed.
It was then that she realized that she didn't know the whale's name. And it was then that she realized, as well, that she had never even given the whale her name, overcome by curiosity as she was.
"Oh, an' by the by, the name's Trobee, good ole Trobee, now whatabout would your own name be, milady?"

"I have no idea who was capturing us. So far as I know just my sister and I escaped." Mayara replied worried. Mayara surfaced again quickly and then sank back down to the otters level. "Hello Trobee, my name is Mayara." she said to the otter. She smilled, glad to be able to talk to someone, its been a while since she has.
She looked at the small otter, she had never seen an animal like this before and she was really surprised.

The curious little animal tilted her head to one side, her vibrant, lively eyes studying the enormous whale before her. She was fearless even though she knew the whale could probably swallow her in one enormous gulp, with that giant chewer.
"Mayara, eh? Now gee, that's a pretty name, quite int'restin', too, wot, never heard a thing like it, but otters don't really have those types o' names, wot wot? We don't go for exotic, usually, we otters, we're more the modest type." Trobee tittered cheerfully. "Anyways, d'you think maybe you could tell me wot your sister looks like? Her name, maybe? I can help ye look for her, I've gone places an' I'll go again, and plus I can get closer to shore 'n you, and I can get other otters on the lookout for her, too!"

Mayara smilled at the little otter. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, glad somebody liked her name. "Really? You would help out?" she asked. She tilted herself to her side a little, then faced normal. "That would be great!" she was getting really excited. "Her name is Maliki. She's probably about a foot longer than I am...her dorsal fin is really tall and straight...she's really outgoing...can deffinetly spot her quickly in a crowd..." Mayara said in one breath and really quickly.

The cheeky-faced ottermaid couldn't help laughing a bit. "Spot 'er quick in a crowd, y'don't say? May'ap 'cause she's the size of two humans boats put t'gether? 'Specially if she's longer 'n you!" Trobee's sides shook with mirth. "And, dorsal fin, now what in the world or beneath it is that? S'that what you whale thingummies call y'tails?" Trobee slapped a paw down on her own thick, wide tail at the very thought of it.
However, after a bit of a laugh, the otter sobered up again, knowing that this Mayara figure really was serious about finding her sister. "Not t'worry, m'dear, I'll have my relatives on the lookout for 'er as well, how about that?"

"Thank you so much, I really do appreciate that." Mayara chirped with a smile. "I have never seen any other creature around like you!" she said softly, "Theres more of your kind too?" Her curiousity was wondering far again. "Sorry for asking, but I just don't know much about the big blue!" Mayara seemed like a smart whale, but she did have her dumb moments, such as never hearing or recognizing other species of creatures of the oceans.
People were gathering around on the dock now, they finally saw Mayara's dorsal fin above the water and her light gray saddle patch. A small pebble was thrown onto Mayara's back by a little boy who seemed very intrested in the scene. "I really don't like it when noticed by people." Mayara quietly said, "They always think its funny to throw things at me." She rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Trobee.

Trobee roared with laughter at that. "More of us! Ye'd wonder! I've got so many otters in my family I barely remember who everyone is! Cousins, aunts, uncles, mothers, father, siblings, they're all my chappies, they blend t'gether after a bit. They're all in 'n out o' the den like this 'n that, wot wot. Some of live in rivers and some in the sea... our family are sea otters, but we've got cousins from the river."
The ottermaid broke the surface briefly, shooting a cheeky grin at the gathering gaggle of humans. They were gasping and pointing and whispering in a very hushed manner, pointing at Mayara. The large black-and-white fin n her back was sticking our of the water, and even the clueless humans knew that meant there was a whale near the harbor. But at Trobee's appearance, the talk escalated. But she immediately disappeared beneath the murky surface again.
"Humans 're fickle creatures, aren't they? Intriguin', though."
